SOUTH EAST LONDON WDM

Minutes of meeting held on Feb 8th, 2006
Those Present: David, Julia, John, Sam Friggens (New), Clare, Judith, Barbara, Mary, Joanna, Sue, Rachel, Richard, Faith, Roger.

Apologies: Pauline, Dennis, Asia, Richard P, Tim and Sarah

1. Minutes and matters arising.
- still no volunteers to be Press contact officer, but Judith is prepared to do it for Lewisham and Barbara will contact Lewisham Life. Everyone else is to keep an eye out for local publications we can publicise ourselves in.
- Joanna is to research M&S new organic/fair-trade cotton to ensure that they are marketing themselves accurately.
- John is to research alternative bank accounts with a view to changing ours now the Woolwich has been overtaken by Barclays.
- A few WDM members joined in the white band day 3 and the joint vigil with CND.

2. Subscriptions.
£12/£15 waged. £5 unwaged. John will be collecting at next meeting if anyone has yet to pay.

3. SE London WDM archive.
Richard is to compile a list of relevant articles, books, films etc that people own that they think would be of interest to the group then they can be exchanged at meetings. Richard will then liaise with Tim to get it on the website.
On the subject of interesting reads John referred us to WDM's Dirty Aid dirty Water tricky questions sheet which can be accessed along with many other things on www.wdm.org.uk/groups/private/index.htm. Click here to go there. You'll need the user name wdmgroups and the password beehive.

4. Joan Ruddock meeting - Thursday 16th Feb.
This is a consultative meeting on Africa prior to a visit to Botswana, Malawi and Mozambique. Joanna, Clare and John are planning to go. Booking is necessary. They will bring up the brain drain.

5. Joint summer Event with the Africa Families Foundation.
Clare is to email AFF and Kofi (our AGM speaker) to see if something can be arranged.

6. Puppets.
Faith has made puppets for a short show on debt and fair trade. She needs someone to provide lyrics/script to use in Reading schools. She was directed to a place in Greenwich.

7. World Water Day Wed 22nd March
John, Richard and Faith to go to the London Groups meeting on 13th Feb and the Africa centre to prepare a joint campaign for the DADW . Various ideas were given to them to take to the meeting.

8. National WDM public meeting. After MPH, What next? Wed 1st March. ULU 7pm.
Booking necessary. Clare and Richard volunteered to help flying in central London. Other people need to put flyers round local area. Flyers should be with John soon - email version already sent (since the meeting)

9. Replies to our water letters.
None from Jim Dowd, Harriet Harman. Replies from Tessa Jowell and Joan Ruddock (Joanna and Clare to bring them along to next meeting to compare) Jean Lambert has forwarded hers to Peter Mandelson.

10. Response to DfID.
DfID have produced a consultation document called Eliminating Poverty prior to meetings around the country. Response needed by March 17th. Barbara and Roger will read before next meeting. Available on www.dfid.gov.uk/wp2006/default.asp Click here to go there

11. Fairtrade stall in Lewisham March 4th
Rachel to paint banana. John to organise table and leaflets. John will email round to coordinate times.
